Everyone loves a nice scenic photograph, like the beauty of nature, the changing of the seasons, or just the focus on an architectural landmark that takes us to a place we can’t physically be in. The aim of SUNY’s Instagram is to showcase just that–the beauty of all 64 campuses through photographs taken by SUNY Students. With 64 beautiful campuses to choose from, there are always plenty of quality photographs to use. SUNY Students are the most talented in the world (ok, so we are a little biased), and no one else could capture the true beauty of the SUNY System better then you! The SUNY Instagram account had its best year ever in 2014, growing to over 3,000 followers. So for that, we say thank you to everyone who has allowed us to post their photographs and allow others to see SUNY through their eyes.
Below are the best photos from a number of campuses based on Instagram user interactions:
11. Suffolk County Community College
Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) is the largest community college in The State University of New York (SUNY) system.
Recently SCCC was featured for giving back to their community in the annual 30 Days of Giving campaign.
10. SUNY Potsdam
SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music was founded in 1886 and was one of the first institutions in the country to have programs dedicated to preparing specialists in teaching music in the public schools. Today, the Crane School produces some of the finest music educators, scholars and performers in the United States.
Earlier this year, SUNY Potsdam Alumna Renee Flemming sang the national anthem for the Super Bowl!
9. University at Buffalo
Specialized academic communities – like The Academies and the University Honors College – take your education out of the classroom and into the real world at the University at Buffalo.
Earlier this year, in a project designed to find ways to provide clean drinking water to those who don’t have it, a civil engineering student created a device that uses sunlight to heat and disinfect polluted water, making it safe to drink and consume.
8. SUNY Plattsburgh
The residential campus is clean, safe, and easy to walk. Montreal is just an hour’s drive away, as is the Olympic Village of Lake Placid, and Burlington, Vermont.
SUNY Plattsburgh also offers a world class online degree through the new Open SUNY platform. With Open SUNY + students receive a personal concierge, a 24/7 help desk and so much more!
7. Upstate Medical University
Health professionals are in high demand nationwide, and nearly all students from SUNY’s central New York medical center are offered employment prior to graduation.
Earlier this year, the Ebola epidemic flooded the newscasts for months, but what is Ebola really? Upstate’s Medical Director of Infection Javaid Waleed explained it to us.
6. Stony Brook University
With more than 200 majors, minors and combined-degree programs, Stony Brook is included among the world’s top 1% of universities by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
This past November, Stony Brook alumnus (in health care science) Chris Algeri battled Manny Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title in front of an international audience. Talk about packing a punch!
5. SUNY Poly
On March 19, 2014, the State University of New York Board of Trustees unanimously approved SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher’s recommendation to merge CNSE and SUNYIT. The merged institution will provide students with access to the full array of courses and academic and professional development opportunities offered at both campuses, while creating a career-ready workforce that will help attract and retain high-tech companies in the state.
SUNY Poly is developing the future of electronics. Together with tech giants GE, IBM and Globalfoundries, SUNY will drive the future of semiconductors and electronics components.
4. SUNY Oneonta
100+ clubs, 21 intercollegiate athletic teams, extensive volunteer and leadership opportunities all contribute to an Oneonta education.
Did you know that SUNY Oneonta alumnus Don Garber is the current commissioner of Major League Soccer (MLS)?
3. Binghamton University
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and The Princeton Review call Binghamton University a top college value and U.S. News & World Report cites Binghamton as one of the “nation’s top 50 public universities.”
But Binghamton is also home to SUNY’s number #1 mascot! Baxter the Bearcat took home this year’s SUNY Mascot Madness championship in a hard fought championship against Ellsworth Eagle from Brockport.
2. University at Albany
The University at Albany is one of only six colleges and universities in New York with AACSB dual accreditation in business administration and accounting. Their new state-of-the-art School of Business building underscores the commitment to business, information security, and entrepreneurship.
This past spring Lacrosse phonemes, the “Thompson Trio”, took over the sports world. Not only did the Trio shatter NCAA records, one of them got nominated for an ESPY! Earning the first-ever nomination of a SUNY athlete in the 21-year history of the Award.
1. SUNY Geneseo
SUNY Geneseo students win major national fellowships, compete successfully for admission to the best graduate and professional schools in the nation, and never cease to surprise us with their accomplishments.
SUNY Geneseo’s academic reputation expands far beyond New York State. This year they were one of 10 SUNY campuses Named 2015 “Best College Values” by Kiplinger’s.

Cortland??? Have the sickest student life center it is unreal
where is SUNY Oswego with our sunset?? we have the #2 sunset in the world!
As excited as I am to see Potsdam make the list (go bears!), I wish an actual mention of Potsdam had been made…not just of Crane. The building pictured is Satterlee Hall. This was practically my home while at Potsdam. It houses several disciplines within the school of arts and sciences..none of which being the Crane School of Music. Disappointing.
What about Cortland????????????
