It’s back again! SUNY is preparing for its fifth trip to the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, NY where once again, campuses will be able to reach an array of prospective and current students, alumni, and other members of the SUNY family. The music, food, sunshine, and displays provide a great venue to learn about the Power of SUNY and New York. We look forward to making this year’s fair (August 27 – September 7) the best yet!
Along with SUNY’s main position in the Science and Industry building, select campuses will be set out throughout the fairgrounds with displays of all kinds. Campuses will be on display throughout the fair, with a dedicated SUNY Day scheduled for Friday, August 28. So to get you ready for this year’s State Fair, labeled Summer’s Best in Show, we’ve compiled a list of things to look forward to at this year’s event.
Here are 5 things to do at the Great New York State Fair with SUNY:
1. Eat
If there’s one thing the fair is famous for, it’s food. The State Fair offers a multitude of foods grown and produced right here in New York State, such as fresh cheeses, delicious fruits and vegetables, as well as, famous Gianelli sausage. It’s all delicious. But you don’t have to take my word for that. Every vendor at last years fair was reviewed. So put on your best stretch pants and get ready to eat until you just can’t eat any more.
2. Witness the miracle of birth
Er, at least the miracle of calfbirth. Stop by to see Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine provide the opportunity to watch the first step of the circle of life as a dairy cow gives birth to a baby calf. You probably can’t wait to tell all your friends all about the slimy baby cow you’ll have watched take it’s first steps. Of course, you can also learn about veterinary science and animal agriculture at this display too.
3. Come pet some animals!
Whether you just want to visit the livestock or SUNY Cobleskill‘s Therapy Dogs there is a critter at the fair for everyone. SUNY ESF will be bringing some of the birds, mammals, fishes, reptiles and amphibians found throughout North America from the campus Roosevelt Wild Life Collection that you can get up close and personal with. Having an animal around can vastly improve your health and happiness, so if you haven’t got pets at home you might want to find some at the fair!
4. Learn about a SUNY campus near you
A group of SUNY Campuses will be present each day of the fair to showcase some of their interesting initiatives and opportunities. Come see multimedia exhibits, talk to campus faculty and staff, and participate in interactive events, like arts and crafts, make your own Flubber, or even a mobile robot that visitors can operate!
5. Kick back and enjoy some entertainment
This year the fair has exciting entertainers, from music in pop, rock, r&b, to comedy and auto shows. Musicians Orleans and Melissa Etheridge will be performing on Chevy Court during SUNY Day on August 28. In addition, fair visitors can catch entertainment from the likes of Rick Springfield, Nate Ruess, Salt-N-Pepa, Nick Jonas, and many more! With entertainment like this, you may not even need a list of other things to do at the fair?
We can’t wait to see you all at the New York State Fair again this year! See the whole SUNY schedule at the fair on our website to learn what campuses will be present which days.
Now, with so much to do at the New York State Fair we couldn’t help but wonder: what kind of fair goer are you?
