Revere Copper is one of America’s most historic copper rolling mill facilities, with roots tracing back to its namesake, Paul Revere, who founded the nation’s first copper rolling mill in 1801. Through decades of growth and key mergers in 1928 and 1929, that legacy has evolved into today’s Revere Copper Products, Inc., headquartered in Rome, NY. It stands as one of the oldest continuously operating manufacturers in the United States and is one that SUNY is proud to partner with to educate, train, and develop the workforce that New York needs for future growth.
Copper is not the only longstanding legacy that Revere Copper is widely recognized for, it’s also revered for a New York State Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship hiring model that Revere Copper is known for, boasts a renowned reputation for quality training and workforce development in field manufacturing. Apprenticeship programs blend hands-on, on-the-job training with classroom instruction to give apprentices the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in high-demand trades.
SUNY campuses have flexibly worked to ensure the education of apprentices can be met while employees are on the job. For example, while employed at Revere, apprentices can pursue credit-bearing courses at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC). Additionally, campuses like MVCC have been able to adjust to the demands of the apprenticeship model by bringing training directly on-site to companies through non-credit workshops.
A proud partner of the Apprenticeship Programs at SUNY, Revere works closely with the system to expand workforce opportunities across the region. The company has celebrated apprentice graduations in Plant Maintenance–Electrician and continues to grow that program by welcoming new apprentices. It also sponsors training in Toolmaker and Maintenance Mechanic Automatic Equipment trades, reinforcing Revere’s ongoing commitment to developing a versatile, highly skilled workforce in New York’s Mohawk Valley.
Beyond apprenticeships, Revere’s deep roots, forward-thinking investments, and sustainable practices reflect its strong commitment to building community with strategic partnerships and leadership in American manufacturing.
