Sallie Han, Associate Professor of Anthropology at SUNY Oneonta, is featured today on WAMC Northeast Public Radio’s “The Academic Minute.” Airing each weekday at 7:34 a.m. and 3:56 p.m., the program updates listeners on what’s new and exciting in academe through short interviews with researchers from colleges and universities around the world.
Han discusses the ways in which the material objects in our lives can offer glimpses into our everyday joys, pains, hopes and fears—particularly for soon-to-be parents who are suddenly occupied with the acquisition of new gadgets and gear. Han’s research has been focused on reproduction, kinship and gender in the United States. In her new book, “Pregnancy in Practice” (Berghan Books 2013), she examines cultural practices such as preparing a nursery, placing sonogram “baby pictures” in a scrapbook and shopping for baby shower gifts.
In addition to airing on WAMC (99.3 FM), Han’s segment is featured on the WAMC website.
Completely agree with Dr. Han’s statements on the pregnancy. Yes, it is very obvious that a pregnant woman is treated much more better than she ever been looked after. Pregnancy is so special not only for woman but also for the whole family.. 🙂
