It’s taken the Internet by storm: Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 released in November 2013. The beat and rhythm are a perfect boost to a good day and put your head up high when you’re feeling a little gray.
It’s not just fans and listeners across the world that have tuned into the hit song; Pharrell himself is touched by the seemingly endless positive feedback. In April 2014, Pharrell spoke with Oprah about the experience, breaking down after watching a supercut of peoples dancing to his song. Oprah summed it up best: “it makes you happy?”
So, as college-aged students grasp trends across the Web faster than any other demographic, Pharrell’s “Happy” took hold at a few SUNY campuses. To give you a bit of relief during finals this semester, we’ve put them together below with a fun poll to see whose you think made you–well–happy.
SUNY Oswego
From SUNY Oswego:
[Our] family–including President Deborah F. Stanley and President’s Council, students, staff and faculty–recently got “Happy” along with Pharrell’s feel-good hit.Probably our favorite reaction so far has been the parent who said: “It sure is the ‘friendly & happy’ college! I’m so happy my daughter attends Oswego!!!” Residence Life and Housing staff member Kelly Giese produced the video for SUNY Oswego Central Lake’s Got Talent Show on April 15.
That kind of feedback makes us, well, happy.
Stony Brook University
Stony Brook University students, who independently produced this video, are clearly very happy (and good dancers)! But that’s not all–check out the amazing voices of the Stony Brook Vocalists performing “Happy” by Pharrell at their spring 2014 concert.
SUNY Ulster
SUNY Ulster created the video in support of their mascot, Senator Sam, in SUNY Mascot Madness 2014.
SUNY Upstate Medical University
From SUNY Upstate:
Congrats to everyone who matched today across the country! SUNY Upstate Medical School Class dances to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams in preperation for Match Day 2014!
