Thirteen SUNY campuses have been named top “Green Colleges” by the Princeton Review for 2015 in collaboration with the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council. The thirteen schools are among the 353 “most environmentally responsible colleges in the United States and Canada,” according to the Princeton Review.
“SUNY campuses across the state are among the most energy-smart in the nation, a leadership role that we continue to build upon through the expanded use of green technologies and sustainability initiatives,” said SUNY Chancellor Zimpher. “Congratulations to all 13 SUNY campuses included in the 2015 Guide to Green Colleges. This recognition is much deserved and highly commendable.”
New to the 2015 edition is a ranking list of the “Top 50 Green Colleges” on which two SUNY schools made the list. The list was headed by Stony Brook University who was ranked #4, receiving a perfect green score of 99. Also included was the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at #33.
The rankings are released as we celebrate Earth Day on April 22 and include the addition of three campuses over last year’s same list–evidence that the Power of SUNY is truly working for all of New York in way of SUNY and an Energy Smart NY.
It is no surprise that SUNY is well-represented in the rankings. The largest higher education system in the nation is a model of research, health, financial, and educational progress. From SUNY Purchase’s College’s Organic Rooftops, to SUNY ESF and OCC students designing a home with $2/mo utility bill, SUNY is on its way to meeting the EPA’s challenge to be the “Greenest” University System in America. The Power of SUNY is felt far beyond New York.
The 13 SUNY campuses named among North America’s top “Green Colleges” for 2015 are:
- Stony Brook University (#4) (Perfect green score)
- College of Environmental Science and Forestry (#33)
- Binghamton University
- University at Buffalo
- University at Albany
- SUNY Potsdam
- Onondaga Community College
- SUNY Geneseo
- SUNY Fredonia
- The College at Brockport
- SUNY Purchase College
- SUNY Oneonta
- SUNY Oswego
The Princeton Review chose the schools for this guide based on a survey it conducted in 2014 of administrators at hundreds of four-year colleges to measure the schools’ commitment to the environment and to sustainability. The institutional survey included questions on the schools’ course offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation. The complete rankings and college profiles are available for free download at the rankings’ website.
This assessment shows just another amazing way that SUNY impacts New York!
If they had left Southampton open it would have made number ONE.
