Beginning Monday, November 26, SUNY will be pinning stories of giving, service, and kindness originating from each of our 64 campuses and the communities that these schools are a part of.
With over 467,000 students, SUNY consistently takes advantage of the opportunity it has to be a significant impact in communities across New York State. The 30 Days of Giving campaign is a great way to recognize students and community partners involved in the many projects that happen all year round at each SUNY campus and their surrounding communities. The byproduct of taking volunteerism to scale is not only building character in our students themselves as they join our over three million alumni, but also to set an example of impact as the nation’s largest university system.

Day 4
Suffolk County Community College
Suffolk County Community College has created a new website that will be maintained in a manner that will allow it to be activated and put to use whenever a disaster warrants a College response. Its purpose is to provide the latest information regarding campus and college-wide relief activities and to serve as an access point for students, faculty and staff that are seeking to find help and information, as well as make donations in support of those in need.
Binghamton University
The Hand to Heart Holiday Project, an annual holiday drive organized by Residential Life and the National Residence Hall Honorary, provides students with a place to donate children’s gifts. This year alone, the Salvation Army received 1,130 requests for gift bags to be donated to families in need.
Campus residents exceeded their expectations, with a total number of 1,505 students signed up to donate. Ashley Ragusa, Binghamton University student and treasurer of the National Residence Hall Honorary, said the program challenges students to become more engaged in the community, rather than the campus. “What some may see as a small gesture can greatly impact not only a community, but the life of a single child,” Ragusa said. “Everyone deserves to have a wish come true during the holiday season!” The gifts will be delivered to the Wyoming Conference Children’s Home and the local Salvation Army in December.
