Beginning Monday, November 26, SUNY will be pinning stories of giving, service, and kindness originating from each of our 64 campuses and the communities that these schools are a part of.
With over 467,000 students, SUNY consistently takes advantage of the opportunity it has to be a significant impact in communities across New York State. The 30 Days of Giving campaign is a great way to recognize students and community partners involved in the many projects that happen all year round at each SUNY campus and their surrounding communities. The byproduct of taking volunteerism to scale is not only building character in our students themselves as they join our over three million alumni, but also to set an example of impact as the nation’s largest university system.

Tompkins Cortland Community College
Tompkins Cortland Community College just concluded another successful annual food drive. Each year they collect food to “re-stock” the local food pantry (Dryden Kitchen Cupboard) after they get cleaned out for Thanksgiving. Their food drive has grown each year and this year delivered two trucks full of food, plus $1,300 in cash. The drive has grown each year, and it is by far the biggest donation they receive each year. Last month the Dryden Kitchen Cupboard food pantry served 1,385 individuals.
“Who knew that volunteering for the food drive was going to involve so much heavy lifting? The look on the faces of the Kitchen Cupboard ladies when we arrived with a couple of truck loads of food was well worth the effort,” said Josh Knoll, Student member of the College Entertainment Board and Food Drive Volunteer
This year their event was kicked off with a roller skating event on October 25 where people donated cans to skate. Over the next month there were bake sales, raffles, a special grocery bag delivered to every staff member to be filled for the drive, and pickle jars in the café for spare change donations.
